…But before Thompson begins shooting her film set to star Greg Wise and Dakota Fanning, she’s locked in a copyright triangle that might not yet be the talk of the town in 21st century America, but could demonstrate the difficulty in making a film adaptation about a well-trodden historical subject without stepping on another artist’s toes.

    I love Emma, I think that she is brilliant. If copyright will be a problem, hope they could untangle it in time. It is a monumental mistake not to let Ms. Emma show her version of this love story.

    What a sad situation. Wise and Thompson have both said that production will start soon: as I recall, Oct or Nov. I’ve read a recent Effie bio, and I’m convinced that, with a screenplay by Thompson and Fanning as Effie, this could be a really fine movie.
