Iggy Pop in U.K. ad for SwiftCover insurance. Why?

Why?  Why does this ad exist?  Iggy Pop and SwiftCover.  I just don’t see it.  Do I really want to be buying my travel and auto insurance from Iggy Pop?  Does he represent safety and security?

Iggy also appears in a black and white shot on the SwiftCover website.  A conservative website of purple and orange.  The site is not edgy or interesting.  As a matter of fact, it looks like a template with an image of Iggy Pop stuck in the center. The fonts, the layout, the graphics…none of these connect in any way to a shirtless Iggy.

I feel like I’m back in 2000 when startups were looking to slap any celebrity they could into their advertising in order to create buzz and drive traffic.  Back then they were offering stock in exchange for the appearance…we know how that turned out.  Hopefully Iggy was paid in pounds.

Totally disagree. This ad’s target is the huge mass of people who hate dealing with insurance because they have better things to do with their time. His observation, “ever notice how the more important a document is, the better it is at hiding” holds true for a lot of people, and having Iggy Pop of all people deliver it makes Swiftcover stick in my head.
